was it originaly 26tpi? i have been to a few (3) bike shops and each have said this shouldnt be done because the result will be a mess...where can these taps be purchased so i can do it myself..also the milling tool used to reduce the width, where can they be purchased...online or can shops get them in..Thanks

Yep 24 tpi and 73mm wide bottom bracket shell.
