I wasn't too impressed with the bizarre plastic collet-thing that Raleigh fitted in their wisdom, so the local bike mechanic fitted a proper Raleigh headset that he had lying around. It works well.

I'm not actually sure how he did it. The lower part of the headset was changed as well, I suppose it's possible it might have more stack and hence draw the steerer tube further down into the head tube. I'll ask him next time I see him.

Did your mechanic run more threads at 26 TPI ? I have run out of threads when trying to modify or swap a steerer tube to a RSW from a Twenty.

and then you need a couple spacers and the top nut.
