I have not gotten the nerve to do this yet. Last challenge for the bikes with me. A couple of my hubs would benefit from a cleaning and grease etc. Thanks Ed

It's fun, messy and not that hard. Just print of and exploded view for reference and do it!

Only just asked the question and its hidden in the gallery. Dont think it will make much difference. One side of gear is completly flat the other has the chamfer as per photo. Did not notice when taking apart but if you know to look for the chamfer when you take yours apart it will not be a problem. I can not work out if its for ease of assembly or for oil. The hub was in a very poor state with the R "pawl" springs corroded through. Boiled the parts in caustic soda came up better than expected. Dont put in any aluminium as it will dissolve it. This also got rid of the old grease washed then dried and oiled. Bearings were fine. Taken apart a few times now to show people how the hub works strip down and assembly only takes a few minutes when the parts are clean. Good luck with yours they are easer than you think. Thanks for the link to the hub group I have joined. I will do a search on there when I get time.

This is a really good series of pics, thanks for posting. I plan to dismantle and then reassemble a spare AW that I got off the scrap metal man. Did you ever get an answer to your query? I am certain that somebody here will know... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Geared_hub_bikes/
