Lights and bells
For the front hubs, we were going to use conventional Raleigh front hubs (the 18s use the same front hub as the Twenty and the Sports). However we thought it would be a significant and sympathetic improvement to use vintage Sturmey Archer 28 hole Dynohubs. To the best of my knowledge and research, none of the Eighteens made by Raleigh came with front or rear dynohubs. Some Raleigh Chopper models however did come with 28 hole front dynohubs. So they are available. I was able to secure a few dynohubs which needed rebuilding. The front dynohubs are a great choice. They are perfectly capable of powering front and rear LED lights. The bicycles have been fitted with Busch & Muller front and rear dynamo lights, with both standlights and daytime running facilities. This means the lights are always on, day or night, moving or stationary, which is a good safety feature. The bells Crane eNe, made in Japan, which have a beautiful ring tone of musical quality One is copper and the other is brass and they play a different and complementary note.
