Many thanks for that Ikara Oz; I really appreciate your comments. I bought the bike off eBay around 2003 for £15, but it had mountain-bike type wheels wedged-in so tightly that even with the nuts completely removed from the axles it still took a massive effort to get the wheels out of the frame and front fork. I built the back-wheel myself with a 1985 3-speed SA hub and a rim that I had in a box of spares, so never saw the original hub-date or wheel. I have ridden this bike a lot, but have just loaned it to a friend of my wife's who wants to try cycling part of the way to work at our local Hospital, partly for her own fitness, and partly to avoid the really expensive NHS car-parking charges. Anything that I can do to further the cause of cycling is OK by me. I have a handful of other bikes at home - which my wife jokingly describes as "too many" - at least I think she's joking - so I am not deficient or anything. ☺
